Religion And Pro Life Issues

Religion and pro life issues organizations work together to help promote the sanctity of life from conception forward.

God on Your Side?

Having God as backup for any argument really isn’t fair, is it? After all, he is a supreme deity and not one who likes to pull punches. In the pro life movement, God is certainly a part of the argument and a part of the solution. In the Bible and in other religious texts there are numerous references to the idea that people shouldn’t kill other people. Since the pro life movement considers a child to be a person from the time they are conceived, this means that abortions and abortion pills are weapons of murder – and they need to be stopped. Biblical quotes can be pulled out at any time to support the pro life cause – and they look smashing on large posters as they march past abortion clinics as they hand out pro life resources.

Bringing Religion In

While religions of all backgrounds can support the pro life organizations and causes, this does not mean all of the members of a church are pro life. Some devout Catholics are pro choice, while some less than devout Christians from other followings simply don’t agree with the pro life movement. They might simply support women’s reproductive rights, while making the personal choice to not have an abortion. Everyone seems to have their own personal version of when life begins and when it’s okay to make the decision to abort a child. Consider this conundrum: if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant with the man’s child, should she have to carry that baby to term? Many people just don’t think so. But technically, that is still killing a child so pro life supporters would say the woman should keep the child. (Can you imagine?)

An Instant Support Group

With the larger religious groups getting into the pro life organizations and protests, the pro life movement has a lot of faces and a lot of support. But should religion get into this sort of political debate? Ah, wow, another discussion without an answer.
